Coco Gauff forgot something very important as she came out for her French Open matchCoco Gauff’s French Open campaign got off on the wrong note as she took to Court Philippe-Chatrier with something missing. The world No. 2 was ready to face Australia’s Olivia Gadecki when she realised that she had arrived without any rackets, and she quickly informed the umpire. Gadecki saw the funny side as a huge smile spread across her face when the official informed her that there would be a brief delay while they waited for an all-important delivery. And tennis legend Chris Evert, who was calling the match, couldn’t believe that Gauff had made such a mistake. While her outfit was on point, Gauff soon learned she hadn’t properly equipped herself for the match. “There’s something going on on the court that Coco is having an issue with, we don’t quite know what it is. She’s definitely discussing something,” Evert said on TNT Sports as the umpire tried to sort the issue out. Cameras cut to Gauff’s box, with members of her team also looking confused. “Does she have her rackets?” co-commentator Naomi Cavaday replied. The penny dropped that Gauff had zero rackets in her arsenal, and Evert couldn’t believe her error. “Oh no! She went on the court without her rackets! She brought her racket bag out empty, is that what it is?” she exclaimed.Coco Gauff got off to a flying start when she finally received her racketsStay up-to-date with the latest Tennis news Join us on WhatsApp Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners. She looks like she’s got two sort of holdall bags.” The American’s rackets were finally delivered to the court and both players made their way to the net for the coin toss and pre-match formalities before warming up. Although Gauff had clearly been distracted before coming onto the court, forgetting her rackets, she hadn’t forgotten how to play tennis. She raced into a 3-0 double-break lead before the Aussie got one of the breaks back.SUBSCRIBE Invalid email We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you've consented to and to improve our understanding of you.
