Wisconsin dominates in season-opening doubleheader

DEKLAB, Ill. - The Wisconsin women's tennis team opened the spring season Friday at the Nelson Tennis Center with a pair of dominant performances, sweeping both Missouri and Northern Illinois, 7-0.

Match One vs. Missouri

Wisconsin wasted little time taking control in this match. ITA All Americans Maria Sholokhova and Lucie Urbanova picked up the opening win before Ellison Reynoldson and Ekaterina Ivanova followed with a 6-1 victory to clinch the doubles point for the Badgers.

The momentum carried into singles, where Wisconsin controlled play across the lineup. Tianna Rangan rebounded after dropping the first set to take command in the second and third, while Ivanova earned a straight-set win at No. 2 singles in just over an hour. Parker Christensen clinched the sweep with a hard-fought win, battling through a final set tiebreaker to secure the final point against the Tigers.

Match Two vs. NIU

The Badgers again struck first in doubles, as Kaja Jacobson and Maria Sholokhova earned a quick 6-1 win. Reynoldson and Parker Christen followed shortly after with a 6-2 victory, clinching the doubles point and putting Wisconsin out front early against the Huskies.

Maria Sholokhova delivered a dominant performance, securing the win in just under 45 minutes, 6-0, 6-1 decision. Kaede Usui responded after dropping the second set, taking control in the third to add another point for the Badgers. Ellison Reynoldson came out strong in her first singles match of the season, earning a straight set victory, 6-1, 6-4.
