MS Dhoni may be 43 years old, but he still has enough power in those arms, can still take a good aim from those eyes and can still run out batsmen with direct hits. They all may be calling for MS Dhoni to hang up his boots, but the former India captain proves it again and again that he still has enough cricket in him to carry on.

The latest instance came in the Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Monday. LSG were 156/4 in the last over of their innings when skipper Rishabh Pant called Abdul Samad for a quick single from the non-striker’s end.

Abdul Samad had missed a wide delivery from Matheesha Pathirana down the leg side, but Pant, in a bid to come back on strike called him for a quick single and charged from the non-striker’s end. Samad was a little late to react to Pant’s call and was looking behind the wicket to see Dhoni collect the ball. By the time Samad reacted and started to run, Pant was already halfway down the pitch.

Dhoni, smart enough to target the non-striker's end, gently tossed the ball in an underarm throw to the bowler's end and hit the bull's eye to run out Samad.

Dhoni then took a high catch off the very next delivery to dismiss Pant (63), who registered his first 50-plus score after 19 innings in T20 cricket. Pant’s wicket was Dhoni’s 201st fielding dismissal in the IPL.

With this dismissal, the Dhoni-Jadeja combination became the third pair to complete 9 stumpings – the most for a bowler-keeper combination in the IPL. Skipper Pant top scored for LSG with a 49-ball 63 who finished at 166/7 in their 20 overs.
