Manchester United fans rally behind Ruben Amorim after opposing Ineos talks over Amazon documentary

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is gearing up for his first full Premier League season and will be doing it without TV cameras pointed in his direction.

The new Premier League season is just over a month away, and Ruben Amorim is looking for a real change of fortune.

United appointed Amorim as Erik ten Hag’s replacement in November, but the start of his reign has been a little unconvincing.

United finished 15th in the Premier League table, 24 points shy of the top six and 42 points away from leaders Liverpool.

Add in United’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, and the jury is certainly still out on Amorim.

United open the Premier League season against Arsenal, and Amorim really needs a strong start to quieten his doubters.

Manchester United turn down Amazon documentary

United’s full focus will be on the football, having rejected the chance to feature in a behind-the-scenes documentary series on Amazon Prime.

The Athletic report that United held ‘secret talks’ with Amazon and had been negotiating the deal for ‘several months’.

United would have raked in ‘significantly more’ than £10million for the deal, and Amazon’s payment would have exceeded previous agreements with Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

That would have been a welcome cash injection for United, but Amorim has completely shut the idea down.

United presented the idea to Amorim, and he was ‘not comfortable’ with the potential of TV cameras intruding on his work.

United, therefore, kiboshed the deal and refused to go ahead with the documentary series without Amorim’s approval.

Manchester United fans on Amazon documentary snub

United fans have been taking to social media to react to the news, with many believing that Amorim has made the right decision.

Here are some of the best reactions on X, with Amorim earning praise from United fans for standing firm on his beliefs…

Most United fans certainly appear to be on Amorim’s side here, believing that TV cameras coming behind the scenes is the last thing United need right now.

Some feel that a documentary series could be worthwhile down the line, but others don’t want United to get involved in this kind of thing at all.

That is something for Ineos to consider down the line, but with Amorim fighting to change United’s fortunes, any TV deal may be difficult with the Portuguese coach at the helm.
