Farhan's Century Not Enough to Save Pakistan

The 2026 ICC T20 Cricket World Cup has been an entertaining and eventful one for most teams involved.

Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by five runs. The final score was 212/8 to 207/6 with the full 20 overs played on each side. Unfortunately for Pakistan fans, Sahibzada Farhan’s record-breaking knock was not enough to secure a semi-final placement.

Pakistan’s Record-Breaking Opening Partnership in Their Final T20 World Cup Super 8 Match

Leading the way offensively for Pakistan against Sri Lanka was the opening partnership of Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman.

The partnership connected for 176 runs, becoming the highest partnership for a wicket in T20 World Cup history. The partnership remained in play in the match-up until the end of the 15th over, when Farhan was eventually bowled out.

Zaman remained in the match for a long time. Zaman finished the match with 84 runs on 42 balls. He struck for nine 4s and four 6s.

Sahibzada Farhan Overtakes Virat Kohli’s T20 World Cup Record

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the joint performance was Farhan’s history-making knock.

For starters, Farhan became the first batter to knock two centuries in a single T20 World Cup Tournament. Additionally, he has accumulated a total of 383 runs during this T20 World Cup.

By recording 383 runs, he surpassed Virat Kohli’s previous record of 319 runs. Kohli set that record in the 2014 T20 World Cup.

Farhan finished his historic performance with 100 runs on 60 balls. He rounded out his impressive knock with nine 4s and five 6s.

Salman Agha Out as Captain After T20 Cricket World Cup Result?

Prior to their victory over Sri Lanka, there was speculation that Salman Agha could be playing his last match as Pakistan’s captain. They may have finished the match with a victory, but the tournament’s final result is not a win for Agha.

One outlet reports that Agha will be replaced by one of his teammates on the next international circuit.

“According to a report from Revsportz, Salman Agha is walking on a tightrope, and it added that if Pakistan fail to reach the semi-finals, then Agha would be sacked from his role,” reports Crex. “Shadab Khan will take over as Pakistan’s T20I captain. The star all-rounder is currently the deputy of the team and would be promoted as the team leader for the next World Cup cycle.”

This report reveals that Shadab Khan would replace Agha. However, after the backlash that Agha has experienced, specifically the online abuse that has been directed at his family, a change might be a good thing for the current Pakistan captain.

Salman Agha Not Cut Out to be Captain

Prior to Pakistan’s final two matches, one cricket commentator declared that Agha was not captain material.

“Looking at him tactically, he is not captaincy material,” Akhtar said on the Game on Hai show earlier this week. “He was forced into the role as a ‘make-shift’ arrangement, and now the reality is right in front of you. How many more mistakes will he make?”

“I don’t think he is cut out for this job as a captain.”

Despite cricket being a team sport, some fans and analysts will claim that Agha’s decisions cost Pakistan a chance at the World Cup.
