Abhishek Sharma fined by IPL after run-out controversy in KKR vs SRH

SRH opener Abhishek Sharma was handed a demerit point and a hefty fine by the IPL following the win over KKR at the Eden Gardens on Thursday, April 2. Abhishek was charged 25 percent of his match fee as a penalty for using obscene language during the contest.

The match referee deemed the SRH opener to have breached Article 2.3 of IPL Code of Conduct, which covers the use of language that is widely recognised as offensive, obscene or profane (in any language), and is audible to spectators or the viewing audience—whether picked up by stump microphones or otherwise. This may include, for instance, expressions of frustration directed at one’s own performance or circumstances.

Abhishek has accepted the punishment from the IPL.

"Abhishek Sharma, All-rounder, Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team's match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Thursday. He admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding," read the statement from the IPL.

While the exact incident hasn't been mentioned in the statement, many believe it to be the moment when Abhishek was left frustrated after his controversial dismissal where Varun Chakravarthy was able to catch him in the deep. Despite the third umpire review, which showed some doubts in the completion of the catch, Abhishek was given his marching orders.

ABHISHEK ROARS BACK TO FORM

After a poor start to the campaign against RCB, Abhishek roared back into form during the clash against KKR on Thursday. The Indian opener scored 48 off 21 balls and the innings consisted of four boundaries and as many sixes.

His knock played a part in SRH scoring 226 and then bundling KKR out for 161 in 16 overs to seal the win. Abhishek and Hyderabad will next be in action when they host LSG at home on April 5.
