Liverpool's Mohamed Salah stunned a former team-mate away from the pitch

Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister has confessed that nobody at Liverpool comes close to challenging Mohamed Salah's commitment levels. Salah stunned the world of football last week when he announced that he will leave the club in the summer.

The winger will bring his nine-year spell at Anfield to a close. He has established himself as a Reds icon with a haul of major trophies, including two Premier League titles and the 2019 Champions League.

Speaking to the Player's Tribune, the Argentinian midfielder said: "Mo, he's hilarious. For a few weeks, I actually tried to get to the gym before him, but it was impossible. He was always there already, sweating.

"One day, I asked him, 'But Mo... when do you sleep?' He said, 'I don't like it when I get more than seven hours. I feel tired.' [I replied], 'You feel tired?' [And he said], 'Yeah, it's too much. You only need six-and-a-half.'

"He would be in the gym for an hour, and someone would say, 'Mo, are you finished? Let's go eat.' [He would say], 'No, no. I just did my abs. Now I have to really work out.'"

"When I first arrived, I tried to compete with him. I thought, 'OK, the guy is 31. I'm 24. Let's do some abs.' Damn, I think I did three sessions with Mo before I gave up. I would wake up the next morning, and I was so sore I could barely sit up in bed."

The midfielder has starred since arriving at Anfield from Brighton in the summer of 2023. The Premier League-winning playmaker also revealed that, such is Salah's influence, that the Egyptian persuaded him to change his pre-match attire.

"When I was in Brighton, I used to wear trousers. Then I came here and I remember against Sheffield [United] we went out to the warm up," Mac Allister told Liverpool's TV channel.

"I was wearing a hat and trousers and Mo Salah told me 'What are you doing? Why are you wearing that?' So since that day, I never wore trousers... Only because of Mo."

Former Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has also admitted that he was caught out by Salah's dedication behind the scenes at Anfield. Oxlade-Chamberlain arrived at Anfield in the summer of 2017, signing from Arsenal, in the same transfer window as Salah.

The duo spent six seasons as colleagues under ex-boss Jurgen Klopp. Now playing his trade at Celtic, Oxlade-Chamberlain peeled back the curtain on his former team-mate, admitting his shock at Salah's decision to leave Liverpool and expanding on the 33-year-old's frightening commitment.

Speaking on In The Mixer brought to you by Sky Bet, Oxlade-Chamberlain said: "In terms of professionals, I have never seen anyone do what Mo does every hour of the day to the point where I straight up look at him and think, 'I don't think I could do that and fair play.'

"He comes off the pitch, he's installed ice baths, ice chambers, cryo chambers in his house and red light therapy and he is from one thing to the next. He definitely doesn't play golf or anything in his free time. He ain't got time for anything else."
