Brits shine in Miami & Francesca Jones equals career-best title

Cash and Glasspool continued their incredible start to the 2025 season with their first ATP Masters 1000 final together.

The British duo knocked out Australian Open champions Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara in the semi-finals, but eventually lost out to top seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic 7-6(3), 6-3 in the final.

Cash and Glasspool have already won two titles this year in Brisbane and Doha and currently sit as the No.4 ranked team in the ATP doubles race.

Watson reaches semi-final in Mexico

Former British No.1 Heather Watson had her best result of the season so far – reaching the semi-final of the WTA 125 Puerto Vallarta Open in Mexico.

In her first main draw event of the year, Watson knocked out Whitney Osuigwe, sixth seed Sara Sorribes Tormo and Marina Stakusic en-route the final four.

In the semi-finals however, she lost out to Czech Republic’s Linda Fruhvirtova 6-2, 6-4.

Watson has jumped 24 places in this week’s ranking – the biggest jump in any British women’s player in the top 500 – to world No.182.

Elsewhere, Luke Johnson and Marcus Willis also made ATP Challenger doubles semi-finals at events in Naples and Morelia respectively.

Jones impresses with title in Brazil

What a week for 24-year-old Francesca Jones, who equalled her career-best title with silverware at the W75 Vacaria in Brazil.

Jones – who has recently qualified for two WTA events and made a WTA 125 semi-final in Cancun – came through her opening four rounds with straight sets wins, dropping only 19 games in total.

The Briton went on to add another clay court title to her collection after an epic comeback victory over France’s Leolia Jeanjean in the final 1-6, 6-4, 6-1.

This is Jones’ first title of the season and eighth singles trophy in her career – all of which have come on clay.

There was more British women’s success in the doubles event at the W50 Santo Domingo as Ella McDonald and Holly Hutchinson clinched another title.

The British duo – who won four titles together last season – finished off the week with a convincing 6-1, 6-4 win over Americans Carmen Corley and Maribella Zamarripa in the final.

19-year-old McDonald has now won 10 ITF titles since 2023, while Hutchinson continues to climb the ranks with her seventh career tournament victory.

Broady & Parker among British title winners

Former GB Davis Cup and ATP top 100 star Liam Broady was back amongst the title winners last week with a singles trophy at the M15 Foggia.

Broady didn’t drop a set throughout the week – finishing with a dominant 6-1, 6-3 victory over Iannis Miletich in the final.

It marks Broady’s first title since 2023 and a 10th singles trophy of his career.

Stuart Parker also featured as an ITF singles title winner last week at the M15 Heraklion in Greece.

Parker defeated Petros Tsitsipas – brother of world No.8 Stefanos – in the semi-final 6-3, 6-0 before moving on to knock out another Greek player, Stefanos Sakellaridis 6-2, 6-2 in the final.
