The provisional list contains several Real Madrid players who could be involved in Spain’s high-profile clash against the Argentina national football team in the Finalissima scheduled for March 27.

Spain are also expected to play a friendly match against Egypt on March 30, although that fixture has become uncertain due to the conflict in Iran.

The five Real Madrid players

Gonzalo Garcia is not the only Madrid player included in the initial squad plans.

The list also reportedly features Alvaro Carreras, Dean Huijsen, Raul Asencio and experienced defender Dani Carvajal.

These five players are also considered potential candidates for Spain’s squad for the upcoming World Cup this summer, making the international break an important opportunity for them.

For some of the players involved, the upcoming call-up could represent a significant milestone in their careers.

Both Gonzalo Garcia and Alvaro Carreras could receive their first-ever selection for the senior Spanish national team if they make the final squad.

Raul Asencio has previously been included in Spain’s squad. The defender received his first call-up for the UEFA Nations League quarter-final matches against the Netherlands, although he did not feature in those games.

Meanwhile, Carvajal last played for Spain during a World Cup qualifying match on September 4, 2025.

There is uncertainty

Another element still surrounded by uncertainty is the location of the Finalissima match against Argentina.

The game was originally expected to be played in Doha, but that has now changed due to the tension in the Middle East.

There had been discussions about hosting the match at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, but reports suggest that the Argentine Football Association has raised objections to that possibility.

As things stand, if an agreement on the venue cannot be reached soon, there is even a possibility that the highly anticipated match between Spain and Argentina could be cancelled altogether.
