Liverpool FC fans aimed a cheeky dig at arch-rivals Manchester United in an advert displayed in the shadow of Old Trafford.

The Merseysiders wrapped up a 20th top division title by beating Spurs 5-1 at Anfield last month. That equals the tally United reached with their last league win, in 2013.

Liverpool also have six Champions League / European Cups, to United's three. If Community Shields are counted as major trophies, then the clubs are now deadlocked on 68 each.

However, if they are discounted, Liverpool have 52 trophies to United's 47. The honours board on United's website includes Community Shields, however the 'Champions Wall' at Anfield, does not.

United could also add to their trophy after reaching the Europa League final where they will face Tottenham in Bilbao. If they were to win that, they would claim 69 trophies to Liverpool's 68, including Community Shields.

However, after years of taunting their historic rivals about having more title wins, one Liverpool fan group have decided to rub the Reds' noses in it after being crowned champions again.

A message has been displayed on the huge electronic advertising billboard over the White City roundabout, under half a mile from Old Trafford. It reads: "Manchester, just 37 miles to the country's most successful football club."

The advert bears the logo of Liverpool podcast and fan platform The Anfield Wrap, who are behind the stunt. They said on X, formerly Twitter: "A message for Manchester, and we're never gonna stop."

Later adding: "This is who we've always been...and we're never gonna stop."

After Liverpool's title win, United legend Gary Neville said on Sky Sports: " 'It is a massive deal. When you think of the importance of a league title, the managers at Liverpool and United always talk about your bread and butter being the league.

"You could debate the most successful club when United were on 20.

"Obviously, Liverpool have more European Cups, but the painful thing to say is the debate is over for a period until United become successful again and win leagues."
