Sanju Samson has helped lead India’s cricket team to the brink of a second T20 World Cup title — and his family is getting some added attention during the run.India and New Zealand face off on Sunday for the tournament title, with Samson’s performance playing a big role in India’s performance this year. India are looking to become the first team ever to win back-to-back T20 World Cup titles and the first to win it at home, and Samson is expected to once again play an important part.Sanju Samson’s Wife Stays Out of the SpotlightAs the world’s attention turns to the Indian team, Samson’s wife and family have also gotten plenty of spotlight as well.As The Economic Times reported, Samson’s wife, Charulatha Remesh, has maintained a relatively low profile during his rise to the top of the cricket world. The report noted that the pair met while attending Mar Ivanios College together.“At the time, Sanju was steadily building his reputation in domestic cricket, while Charulatha was focused on her academics and career,” the report noted. “Their connection reportedly began when the cricketer sent Charulatha a friend request on Facebook. Soon, they started chatting regularly, and their friendship eventually blossomed into love.”The couple strived to keep out of the spotlight, the report added. They were later married in an intimate ceremony in Kovalam in December 2018, the report added.Sanju Samson’s Performance Has Been Key for IndiaAs Gulf News noted, the Indian team have praised Samson for his performance through the T20 World Cup. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav said his batting brought a boost to the entire team, raising all of their performances.“In my opinion, bringing Sanju into the line-up was key,” the captain said. “We saw in the recent bilateral series that combinations like Abhishek, Sanju, and Ishan at the top had been working well for us. As soon as we included him, the game’s momentum shifted completely.”Samson has served as the opener, racking up 232 runs at an average of 77.33 and strike rate of 201.73, the report added. He won Player of the Match awards in each of the last two games, a Super 8 match that clinched the semifinal and then the semifinal win over England to put them in the final.Former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin believes Samson has one more strong performance left in him for the T20 World Cup.“If Sanju Samson can tackle Matt Henry the way he dealt with Jofra Archer, I don’t think anyone will be able to stop him. We’re in for an exciting finish, and I really hope he delivers,” Ashwin said. For Samson, the performance has been the culmination of his entire career’s work.“It feels great and really relieving, as I’ve been working towards this for years,” he said. “A lot of patience, inner work, training, and practice have gone into this. I’m very grateful, but there’s one more step to go. If we do that, then all the work will be worth it. One more solid innings, and we’ll make it happen.”
