The nib Newcastle Knights can confirm the following injury updates following yesterday’s NRL Telstra Premiership Round 2 victory over the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, at 4 Pines Park.Captain Kalyn Ponga sustained a hamstring injury during yesterday’s match, scans conducted this morning have confirmed a high-grade hamstring strain.Initial forecasts for his return to play is 6 to 8 weeks, dependant on his response to rehabilitation.Dylan Brown sustained a knee injury during the match, with scans this morning confirming a grade 2 MCL strain, which will sideline Brown for an estimated four weeks.Both Kalyn and Dylan will begin structured rehabilitation programs immediately under the guidance of the club’s medical and high-performance teams.Brodie Jones underwent successful foot surgery last week, his expected return to play will be approximately eight weeks.Brodie has commenced rehabilitation and will continue to be managed closely by the club’s medical department.In positive news, Fletcher Sharpe, who sustained a PCL injury during the Round 1 victory in Las Vegas, is progressing well and is on track to return for Round 3 this Saturday, when the nib Newcastle Knights host the NZ Warriors at McDonald Jones Stadium.Knights Director of Football Chris James said: “Yesterday was a tough, physical contest and the boys showed real grit to come away with a great win at 4 Pines Park.“Injuries are part of our game, and the character our group showed to fight through adversity says everything about the culture we are building.“Tomorrow Fletcher Sharpe will be named in the team for Round 3, we can’t wait to get back to McDonald Jones Stadium for our first home game of the season and feel the support of our members and fans.”
