Rinku Singh's father, Khanchand Singh, who was battling Stage-4 liver cancer, has died. The news was confirmed by ex-India spinner Harbhajan Singh. Khanchandra Singh was on ventilator support at a hospital in Greater Noida, and the cricketer rushed back home this week due to his father's deteriorating health.

“Pained to learn about the demise of Shri Khanchand Singh Ji, father of Rinku Singh. This must be an especially difficult time for Rinku and his family, even as he remains committed to his responsibilities during the T20 World Cup,” Harbhajan Singh wrote on X.

“My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with him and his loved ones. May Waheguru grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength and courage to the bereaved family,” he added.

Rinku Singh did not play for the 2026 T20 World Cup clash against Zimbabwe on Sunday (February 26) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Earlier, the cricketer was set to rejoin the India team squad but he couldn't due to his father's worsening health condition. Rinku returned in time for the contest; however, he was not given a chance in the playing XI as Sanju Samson was preferred ahead of him.

Rinku Singh's ather used to work as an LPG Cylinder delivery man in Aligarh. Despite the tremendous financial challenges, he supported Rinku in his aspirations and played a significant role in his rise as an international cricketer. Rinku's father played an instrumental role in shaping his career as a cricketer. It was just last year when Rinku gifted him a Kawasaki Ninja bike worth Rs 3.19 lakh.

“Father would hit us whenever he found us playing cricket,” Rinku had recalled in an interview. “Mother was somewhat supportive.” In fact, Rinku’s mother even borrowed Rs 1000 from a neighbouring shop so that he could go to Kanpur for a tournament.

Rinku Singh played in a schools’ tournament, where he was the man-of-the-match in the final and was gifted a motorbike. “My father had come to watch the final. He must have realised I was doing something good as he never hit me again for playing cricket.”
