Diego Leon is travelling to Manchester this week to start life as a Manchester United player.

Leon, 18, completed a medical to finalise his move from Paraguay side Cerro Porteno in January, but the deal outlined that he would move to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window.

The exciting left-back has agreed to a five-year contract, with the option of an additional year.

Leon said goodbye to family and friends at a leaving party in Paraguay last weekend and he is set to travel to Manchester this week. United are expected to issue a small statement to announce his signing.

United agreed a £3.3million fee, rising to £7m with add-ons, with Cerro Porteno and the club believe he is a talented young player who possesses the potential to reach Ruben Amorim's first-team.

Amorim will oversee the beginning of pre-season at Carrington on July 7 and Leon is expected to be assessed by staff before a decision is made on his next steps for the 2025/2026 season.

In January, Leon was given a tour of Carrington and Old Trafford following his United medical and was pictured with Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho in the training ground canteen.

Leon was also pictured with former Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, who he bumped into after completing his medical tests and examinations at a private healthcare company.

United could look to explore more deals in the South American market in the next few years and Leon is the latest young recruit in Ineos' search for talented but raw prospects.

Leon (18) has been scouted from Paraguay, Sekou Kone (19) was signed from Mali, while striker Enzo Kana-Biyik (18) is set to arrive on a free transfer from the renowned academy of French club Le Havre AC.

Ayden Heaven, Chido Obi, James Overy, Samuel Lusale and Harley Emsden-James have also been lured to Manchester with the promise of a pathway to first-team football at Old Trafford.
