Rangers Suffer Big Injury Blow Hours Before Dundee United Match

Rangers have suffered a big injury blow just hours before their vital Scottish Premiership clash against Dundee United at Ibrox.

Danny Rohl has shot Rangers into title contention after a disappointing start to the season under former manager Russell Martin, with the club just three points adrift of leaders Hearts going into the weekend.

The Light Blues leapfrogged Old Firm rivals Celtic into second after comfortably beating Aberdeen 4-1 prior to the international break, and they will hope to build on that momentum in the final seven matches of the season to win their first title since 2021.

Rangers can lay down a serious marker to Hearts on Saturday, knowing that a win against the Tangerines will take them to the top of the division - at least for 24 hours before Derek McInnes' men travel to Livingston.

The Glasgow giants will have to do it without one key player though, following an update that emerged on Friday.

'Bit of a Shame' - Rangers Star Suffers Injury

Rohl would have been hoping for no injury setbacks with two matches to go until the split, but one has happened in the lead up to the clash against Dundee United.

The German coach confirmed that they have suffered a 'bigger issue' that will see one player miss the clash with Jim Goodwin's men on Saturday.

Speaking on Friday, Rohl said:

"We have some small issues, one bigger issue, one player will be out for tomorrow. But I will not speak today who it is, but you will see it. It's a bit of a shame, in training, but it happens in football."

One fitness boost did emerge for Rangers fans though, with Andreas Skov Olsen set to be available for selection having missed the victory against Aberdeen through illness.

Rohl Delivers More Bad News

Not only is the mystery Rangers player definitely out for a game against a team who beat Celtic in their last match, but Rohl suggested that he may not return until after the league split, meaning he may only be available for the final five games of the season.

Rohl added when asked if he would be back next week: "Unfortunately not, it will be a little bit longer, hopefully he comes picked in before the split, but it looks more that he will come during the split."

Depending on the condition of the players who have returned from international duty, the German coach should have an almost full bill of health, with Bailey Rice the only long-term absentee.
