Wolves trio could miss trip to Old Trafford, Vitor Pereira gives verdict on Man Utd after Lyon win

The 2024/25 campaign is winding up and Manchester United are still trying to make something of the season.

While it doesn’t help that United are sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table, Ruben Amorim can still win a piece of silverware before it all comes to an end in May.

United’s 5-4 win over Lyon secured a place in the Europa League semi-finals on Thursday night and that will take Amorim’s focus for the remainder of the season.

Vitor Pereira’s side come to Old Trafford after putting together a run of four wins in succession, which has eased any relegation worries.

Wolves go into the game looking for a fifth consecutive top flight win for the first time since 1970 and they are facing a United side expected to make several changes from the team that beat Lyon midweek.

Wolves trio doubtful for Manchester United clash

Wolves manager Vitor Pereira has been speaking to the media before his side travels to Old Trafford.

Like every coach at the business end of the season, Pereira is having to deal with knocks and niggles.

The fitness of Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Matt Doherty will be assessed before the squad leaves for Manchester, after both players had to be withdrawn during their win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Wolves are also sweating over the fitness of Hwang Hee-chan but none of their three injury concerns are said to be serious.

“Bellegarde, Doherty and Hee Chan [Hwang], they are trying to come back,” Pereira told reporters at his press conference.

“They don’t have serious injuries, but they are trying to come back to help us in the game, and we’ll see. We have one more training tomorrow [Saturday] and I must decide and make those decisions tomorrow.

“Even before the last game, he [Hwang] felt something in the muscle, but at the end of the week, we decided to get him to the game, but he still felt something and the medical department are trying to recover him, but we will see what happens.

“[Johnstone and Lima] they are training [with the fitness coaches]. Sam is not training with the team because he still has a small problem, an old problem, that he’s tried to manage, but we’ve had a conversation that it is better to clean the problem and clean the injury and then come back. Pedro is not working with the team yet, but I think he will come back in a few days.”

Vitor Pereira reacts to ‘fantastic’ United win over Lyon

United’s chaotic win over Lyon was one of this week’s biggest talking points.

The reporters asked Vitor Pereira about it before his side travels to Old Trafford where the memorable game took place.

“Old Trafford was fantastic, but the traffic was a problem,” Pereira added. “But in the end, we came from the game thinking, ‘Ok, this is a football game, a proper football game, with everything.’ The emotion that was there – I like this kind of match.

“It was a massive win, and this is the kind of win that brings confidence. I believe that we’ll face a team more confident. But as I said since the beginning, it’s about us. It’s not about Manchester United – it’s about us.

“It’s about how to do our work, how to keep our identity with personality, our ambition, to believe in our work, and play and compete for the three points.”

However, nobody is expecting nine goals from Sunday’s encounter.

Wolves beat United 2-0 earlier this season at Molineux following goals from Matheus Cunha and Hee-chan.

Amorim will be aiming to win most of his remaining six league games this season to help boost momentum for the Europa League run.
