Jordan Anthony stormed to his first-ever U.S. athletics title at the USATF Indoor Championships in New York on Sunday (1 March), finishing ahead of Olympic champion Noah Lyles with a blistering time of 6.45.

He edged 2016 world indoor champion Trayvon Bromell, who came in second, while Lyles - the reigning Olympic 100m gold medallist - was third in 6.51.

After the race, Anthony was handed the championship belt by training partner Lyles, who won this race in his most recent USATF Indoors outing in 2024.

Anthony entered the meet as the fastest man in the world over 60m this year, having run a 6.43 just three weeks earlier.

Speaking to NBC Sports, he said: “I didn’t have two good races [at the start of the season], I needed a little bit of humbling to remember who I am, that dog mentality. Those two races did a lot to me. Everybody said I fell off. I was trying to find out where I was.”

It is the 21-year-old’s first national title since turning professional, having previously claimed accolades in the NCAA 60m and 100m events.

"I enjoy training with (Lyles), It's a great mutual relationship between each other," Anthony said.

"Of course, we're going to talk smack, the sport is soft if we don't. So I'm bringing football mentality and he's just bringing old age right now."
