Tennis talents Coco Gauff and Alexandra Eala will compete together as a women’s doubles team at the 2025 Italian Open (7-18 May).

Women’s world number three Gauff is joining up with the rising Filipina starlet, who is currently at a career high of No. 70 in the world rankings, at the WTA 1000 tournament.

Team Gauff-Eala enter the doubles draw as a wildcard, where they will meet Alexandra Panova and Fanny Stollár in the opening round on Friday (9 May) at the Foro Italico.

They also both entered the singles draw at the Italian Open, where Gauff has a bye into the second round and will play Canadian 18-year-old qualifier Victoria Mboko.

However, Miami Open semi-finalist Eala was eliminated in the first round of the Rome women’s singles draw, falling 6-0, 6-1 in straight sets to Marta Kostyuk.

Gauff is an accomplished doubles player with nine titles, including the 2024 French Open with two-time Olympic double champion Kateřina Siniaková. She is chasing a 10th career doubles title and a fourth WTA 1000 triumph at this year’s Italian Open.

The 21-year-old is also a returning doubles finalist in Rome, which she accomplished alongside Erin Routliffe, who is now the tournament top seed alongside Olympic bronze medallist Gabriela ‘Gaby’ Dabrowski.
