'Bigger shock' - Manchester United star reacts to double transfer departure after losing 'big plus'

Patrick Dorgu has been speaking about Manchester United's transfer business while on international duty

Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu has revealed his reaction to losing compatriots Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund as club team-mates at Old Trafford this summer.

Dorgu joined United in the January transfer window from Italian side Lecce and has made the left-wing-back slot his own in Ruben Amorim's starting XI.

He became the fourth Danish player in the squad, joining Eriksen, Hojlund and young forward Chido Obi, but now that contingent has been cut down to two.

Eriksen left the club on a free transfer at the end of last season and is still on the lookout for a new club. Hojlund joined Napoli on a season-long loan deal which includes an obligation to turn the deal permanent.

Dorgu has described Hojlund's departure as a 'bigger shock' and admitted it was a 'big plus' for him joining United knowing his international team-mates were at the club.

“That’s how it is in football,” Dorgu told Ekstrabladet, as translated by Sport Witness.

“You never know when it’s your turn to move on. We knew it would happen to Christian, but it was perhaps a bigger shock that Rasmus had to move on.

“I talked to him a lot during the process and could sense which way it was going. Hopefully, we will now see each other every time on the national team.

“I have been very happy to be teammates with Christian and Rasmus. It was a big plus for me that they were at the club when I joined. That way it was easier to become part of the squad.

“But it was in no way decisive for my choice of Manchester United. I was thinking much more about the coach’s plans and ideas with me when I had to make the decision.

“I travelled alone to Italy when I was 17. I am also alone in Manchester and I am fine that way. You become incredibly strong mentally when you travel alone so early, because you have to make a lot of decisions. I am sure that mental strength has also helped me on the pitch.”

Dorgu was an unused substitute on Friday in Copenhagen as Denmark were held to a 0-0 draw by Scotland in their first World Cup qualifier.

Denmark are back in action on Monday as they make the trip to Greece in their second group match of their qualifying campaign and Dorgu will hope to be involved.
