If Trent-Alexander-Arnold is to ditch Liverpool for Real Madrid, he'll get a massive pay rise - but it won't decide his fate.It was at the tender age of six that a young Alexander-Arnold’s journey with Liverpool began. With versatility as his strong suit, the Englishman catapulted through the ranks to become an integral cog in Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League and Champions League-winning machine.Fast forward to the present day, and the 26-year-old is now one of three first-team superstars with deals expiring this year – alongside Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. But unlike his counterparts, Alexander-Arnold’s potential suitor has made their intentions crystal clear.Real Madrid undoubtedly want the Englishman, having courted him for some time. Though, with an offer on the table – and the Merseyside outfit putting forward their effort in reply – it is clear now that should the scouser leave his team behind, he won’t be doing so in pursuit of top whack that wasn't on the cards at Anfield. On New Year's Eve, Madrid offered Arne Slot’s side £20million for the services of Alexander-Arnold immediately – looking to coax them into a cut-price deal, having been endlessly linked with snapping up the defender in the summer on a Bosman free regardless. It was swiftly turned down, deemed an insult. The Reds have since tabled their offer to Alexander-Arnold, a £78million mega deal across five years and a chance to cement himself as one of Anfield’s all-time greats. It is a similar £300k-a-week deal as is being offered at the Santiago Bernabeu, meaning that wherever Alexander-Arnold’s chosen destination may be, wages won’t sway him. The England defender currently earns around £180k-a-week. Wherever he may end up, he will nearly double what he takes home.Yet a hefty signing bonus – enabled by the fact that Real wouldn’t have to part with a transfer fee to snap up Alexander-Arnold in the summer – is admittedly a factor that can't be discounted. It would be a huge added perk of moving, and potentially allows him to DOUBLE his new salary if he moves.Image: AFP via Getty Images) AFP via Getty Images)As the saga drags on, Alexander-Arnold has had his commitment questioned on the back of his performance in Liverpool’s disappointing 2-2 draw with Manchester United. Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane even suggested a move to League Two's Tranmere Rovers would be better suited for the defender.Van Dijk – another whose up-in-the-air future – could be seen visibly upset with him during the clash, screaming in his direction on more than one occasion after a string of errors.Ultimately, Alexander-Arnold has a decision to make, and it needs to be made fast. At some point the fence must stop being sat on and a pen must be put to paper to end the speculation once and for all. Or it could lead to more disappointing displays and even risk derailing Liverpool's quest for the Premier League title and other trophies.Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
