Alexis Lebrun withdraws from singles to focus on doubles at the 2025 Table Tennis World Championships

“I haven’t received medical clearance to play two matches in a row”, says table tennis star Alexis Lebrun in a post on his Instagram account.

As a result, the French player has officially withdrawn from the singles competition at the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships 2025 that are ongoing in Doha.

Alexis easily won his opening match in singles 0-4 against Togo’s Kokou Fanny and was scheduled to face Yen-Chun Lin in the round of 64 today (Tuesday, May 20th).

The 21-year-old is still recovering from a fractured hand. If he were to play and win today's match, he would be scheduled for two matches in a row tomorrow. The medical staff of the French Table Tennis Federation considered it too risky.

Instead, Alexis will concentrate on the men’s doubles event, where he and his younger brother Félix Lebrun have advanced to the round of 16 after victories over Spain and Iran. Their next rivals will be Sweden’s Olympic silver medallists Anton Kallberg and Truls Moregard.

The Lebrun brothers were part of the French team that won bronze at the Paris 2024 Olympics and team silver at the 2024 World Championships.
