FIFA have found both the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, and the Congolese Football Association, CFA, guilty of separate infractions during the 2026 World Cup play-off match played in November 2025.

According to Sports Village Square, the world football governing body noted that Nigeria was penalized for a breach relating to order and security at matches.

This specifically involves the throwing of objects by spectators.

The NFF has now been fined 1,000 Swiss Francs by FIFA.

On their part, FIFA handed the DR Congo federation a heavier sanction, after their fans used laser pointers and similar electronic devices during the match.

The act contravenes Article 17.2.d of the FIFA Disciplinary Code and they have been handed a 5,000 Swiss Francs fine.
