Brazil cricket player Laura Cardoso takes nine wickets in T20 international to set new record

Brazilian cricketer Laura Cardoso has set a new record that is going to be tremendously hard to beat.

The 21-year-old has taken the best figures ever in an international T20 match, male or female, with a stunning 9-4 in her country's 189-run victory over Lesotho.

Playing in the Kalahari Women's Tournament in Botswana's capital, Gaborone, Brazil posted an impressive 8-202 from their 20 overs.

Then Cardoso was handed the ball, and the wickets fell rapidly.

The medium pacer bowled the second over of the innings and took a hat-trick, followed by four wickets in her next over.

She took her final two wickets in her third over, but was denied the chance to take all 10 when Marianne Artur claimed the final wicket to bowl Lesotho out for just 13 in 6.2 overs.

The previous best figures for a bowler in men's or women's international T20s was Sonam Yeshey of Bhutan, who took eight wickets for seven runs in a men's T20I against Myanmar in 2025.

The previous best figures from a female bowler belonged to Indonesia's Rohmalia Rohmalia, who took seven wickets for 10 runs against Mongolia in 2024.
