West Brom have shown Eric Ramsay the door despite only hiring him last month with the 34-year-old failing to win a single game as the Baggies slide towards the bottom three

West Brom have sacked Eric Ramsay after 44 days and nine games with the Baggies tumbling towards the relegation zone after he failed to win a single game.

The 34-year-old was given the job in January, moving over from MLS outfit Minnesota United, but the ex-Manchester United coach failed to have the desired affect after replacing Ryan Mason. It leaves West Brom looking for their fourth manager in 14 months.

Ramsay arrived when the Hawthorns outfit were 18th in the table, but he's since seen them plunge to deeper depths and Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Charlton leaves them in 21st and just a point above the relegation spots.

A club statement read: "West Bromwich Albion have parted company with men's first team head coach Eric Ramsay. Assistant head coach Dennis Lawrence has also departed The Hawthorns. First-team coach James Morrison will oversee first-team affairs on an interim basis."

Ramsay's short and underwhelming spell in the Midlands began with 3-2 loss to Middlesbrough whilst he was at the helm for the 5-0 hammering by Norwich - the club's biggest-ever home defeat outside the top flight.

Ramsay issued a defiant response in what proved to be his last press conference. He told BBC WM: "The question around my job and the future is never one I can ever answer or attempt to answer. I can only do what I can do over the course of a day and put my head on the pillow at night feeling I've turned over every stone. I'm not saying I'm blameless - I can only feel I've controlled what I can control."

Included in Ramsay's short stint in charge was a damaging loss to fellow strugglers Portsmouth whilst they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Norwich before Saturday's defeat by league leaders Coventry.

West Brom have struggled to settle on a head coach since Carlos Corberan's departure to Valencia. The Spaniard performed impressively but since he left the club have also had Tony Mowbray in charge, but he was sacked before the end of last season. They gambled on Mason, but that also failed to work out.

The Baggies have spent over a decade as a Premier League club since first getting there in 2002. They spent a solitary year in the top flight in 2020/21, but were relegated and have been in the Championship since. It has been 33 years since they played in the third tier of English football.
