Football: Frankfurt sign Doan on 5-year deal from Freiburg

BERLIN - Japan midfielder Ritsu Doan has joined Eintracht Frankfurt from fellow German top-tier side Freiburg on a five-year deal, both Bundesliga clubs announced Thursday.

The 27-year-old joined Freiburg from Dutch powerhouse PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2022 and scored 10 league goals last campaign.

"I'll do my best to score and make assists to help the team. That's my job," Doan said on the Frankfurt website.

Frankfurt will play in the Champions League next season after finishing third in the Bundesliga last term.

A Gamba Osaka youth product, Doan made his move to Europe in 2017 by joining Groningen before spells at PSV and Arminia Bielefeld.

Doan has 10 goals from 57 games for Japan, including a goal each in wins over Germany and Spain during the 2022 World Cup group stage in Qatar.
