Manchester United news round-up as the club are linked with one of the most exciting young players in Europe

Michael Carrick will take the weekend to ponder his first defeat as interim Manchester United manager with the club not in action. The Premier League takes a break due to the FA Cup fifth round.

United don't return to action until Sunday, March 15 when they host Aston Villa. Carrick will be working tirelessly to right the wrongs of Wednesday's 2-1 defeat at Newcastle.

The former midfielder still has plenty of credit in the bank as he looks to land the job on a permanent basis in the summer. But the defeat in the north-east was certainly a reality check as United enter a break. Mirror Football brings you a round-up of United news…

United check out 'next Haaland'

United have reportedly sent scouts to watch one of Europe's hottest young talents. Yan Diomande, who can operate on both sides of the attack, has flourished since joining RB Leipzig from Leganes, of the Spanish second tier, in a £17million deal last summer.

So far, the 19-year-old Ivorian has registered 10 goals and seven assists across just 26 matches. According to Fabrizio Romano, United sent "several scouts" to watch Diomande in January.

While they are far from the only interested party, they could have an advantage as the club's head of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, previously worked for Red Bull-owned clubs Salzburg and Leipzig.

One figure within the Red Bull football group has gone so far as to compare Diomande to a legendary former Salzburg striker, telling Flashscore he is "the most gifted player within our system since Erling Haaland."

Leipzig are hoping to keep the youngster for more than one season, with club chief, Marcel Schafer, telling Kicker in January: "It is our aim to keep players with us for longer than just one year, because otherwise you don’t achieve any continuity."

However, a big summer offer from United may prove too good to turn down.

Manager addresses transfer talk

Altay Bayındır could be on his way back to Turkey this summer. Bayındır was given a brief chance under Ruben Amorim at the start of the season after Andre Onana's well-documented struggles.

However, the Turkish stopper failed to convince before falling behind new signing Senne Lammens in the pecking order. According to Ajanspor, the former Fenerbahce keeper is wanted by Besiktas. That report was recently put to Black Eagles boss Sergen Yalçın, who didn't deny he was interested in the 27-year-old.

He said: "This is not the time to answer these questions. We play cups, leagues. We will talk about these issues when the transfer window comes."

Besiktas are in the market for a keeper following the recent departure of Mert Gunok to Fenerbahce.
