Super Eagles: Chelle demands ‘outrageous’ $130,000 monthly for new contract

The future of Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle remains uncertain following reports that the Franco-Malian tactician has submitted a 19-point proposal to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), seeking a significant review of his contractual terms.

According to reports, Chelle—

Currently earning $50,000 monthly, Chelle reportedly requested an upward adjustment to $130,000 per month (approximately ₦174 million). The proposed figure covers his salary, technical crew wages and personal assistant.

Submitted on January 22, the proposal reportedly goes beyond financial demands. It includes requests for improved logistical support, structured camping programmes, enhanced scouting provisions, official contracts for his backroom staff and full autonomy in player selection and call-ups.

Among other provisions listed are housing in a secured environment, an official SUV with chauffeur and security, flight tickets for his family, guaranteed salary payments before month-end, and inclusion of his personal assistant in bonus structures.

Crucially, Chelle also requested non-interference in team selection and authority to choose international friendly opponents based on tactical requirements.

However, the NFF is said to have rejected the salary adjustment, citing financial realities and broader remuneration discussions within Nigerian football.

Sources suggest the federation considered the financial leap excessive under current budgetary constraints.

With critical international fixtures ahead, the situation places the NFF at a crossroads, balancing fiscal responsibility with the stability of the senior national team.
