min sets up 2 goals in LAFC's win at regional tournament

Son Heung-min has recorded two assists to push his Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) to the brink of the championship final at the top regional tournament.

LAFC defeated the Mexican side Deportivo Toluca FC 2-1 in the first leg of the semifinals at the Concacaf Champions Cup at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles on Wednesday (local time).

Son found Timothy Tillman for the opening goal in the 51st minute, but Toluca drew even in the 73rd minute courtesy of Jesus Ricardo Angulo.

Then with the match headed for a draw, Son set up Nkosi Tafari for a header on a free kick to cap the narrow victory.

Son now has 14 assists in 14 matches in all competitions this season, including six at the Concacaf tournament. This was the fourth match this season in which Son recorded multiple helpers.

The second leg of the semifinals will be played at Estadio Nemesio Diez in Toluca, Mexico, at 9:30 p.m. next Wednesday (local time), or 10:30 a.m. next Thursday (Korea time). The away goals rule will be in effect.

This year's Concacaf Champions Cup began with 27 clubs from the United States, Mexico, Canada, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, Guatemala, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Dominican Republic.

The other semifinal series pits Nashville SC of the U.S. against Tigres UANL of Mexico. Tigres took the opening leg 1-0 on Tuesday.
