What Ruben Amorim has been doing after Man United sack as Michael Carrick shown true colours

Ruben Amorim was sacked as Manchester United head coach in February and has yet to return to management

Almost two months have elapsed since Ruben Amorim was dismissed from his role as head coach of Manchester United. Amorim's departure came as some were still digesting the explosive remarks he made following a 1-1 Premier League draw with Leeds United and brought to an end 14 months at the helm.

And so over to interim boss Michael Carrick, who has presided over a significant improvement in form with 16 points from a possible 18 bolstering United's prospects of securing a top-four finish. But what has become of his predecessor?

Amorim earned a multi-million pound payout following his sacking and is under no financial pressure to rush back into management. Top clubs may still turn to him after his successful stint at Sporting CP, despite the fact that he failed to replicate this success in English football.

Amorim could potentially return to management during the summer, whether that be in the Premier League or elsewhere. However, the 41 year old has been keeping busy, having been spotted in both the UK and Qatar since his dismissal.

Sudden dismissal

Amorim's exit from United occurred rather abruptly. He vented his frustrations at the club following the draw with Leeds and was gone within 24 hours.

"With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club's leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change," the club said in a statement confirming the decision. "This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish."

Later on the day of his dismissal, the Portuguese manager was seen with his wife Maria in Cheshire. He seemed in positive spirits as he engaged with photographers in the snow, with the day's developments not visibly dampening his mood.

Carrick gesture shows true colours

So far, Amorim has declined to speak about the moment things ended for him at United. This appears to be no accident, with reports suggesting he has chosen this approach deliberately as a mark of respect towards his successor Michael Carrick.

According to The Mail, he will hold off until the summer before speaking publicly. Amorim is understood to be unwilling to do anything that might undermine the upturn in form under Carrick which could yet turn this into a successful season.

Monday's victory at Everton saw United finish the gameweek in fourth position, three points ahead of their nearest rivals. Fifth place may still secure Champions League qualification, though that will hinge on how Premier League clubs fare across UEFA competitions between now and May

Appearance in Qatar

While Amorim remains out of the management game, he was snapped enjoying another sport in Qatar. He travelled to Doha earlier this month where he was among those in attendance for a tennis match between Carlos Alcaraz and Karen Khachanov.

There's no suggestion Amorim has any direct links to world No.1 Alcaraz or Russian star Khachanov, while a transfer to a Qatari club hasn't been mentioned at this point. Instead, a return to Portugal's Primeira Liga could be his next destination.

Amorim has been mentioned in connection with the Benfica position, though Jose Mourinho remains at the helm for now. He spent numerous years at the Lisbon outfit during his playing days, playing more than 150 times for the club across all competitions.
