Leaders Arsenal enter the weekend with a five-point advantage over title rivals Manchester City, who boast a crucial game in hand.

Many thought that cushion would evaporate last weekend, but ‘Dr Tottenham’ lent a helping hand to restore Arsenal’s mojo following their disappointing 2-2 draw with Wolves at Molineux.

The Gunners fired four past their London rivals that afternoon and will fancy their chances of collecting maximum points against another local opponent this weekend.

Arsenal have won their last three home league games against Chelsea, while the Blues are winless in their last eight Premier League meetings with the Gunners – their longest such run since a stretch of 19 between 1995 and 2005.

In his second game in charge of Arsenal in December 2019, Mikel Arteta lost 2-1 at the Emirates to Chelsea. Since then, his side have lost just one of 15 matches against the Blues in all competitions (W10 D4), beating them twice in the Carabao Cup semi-final earlier this year.

As for the visitors, their fortunes have been mixed of late.

Following a run of five wins on the spin, they’ve drawn their last two top-flight outings against Leeds and, inexplicably, Burnley – the latter conceding in stoppage time last week.

Those results have seen them slip out of the top four, with Liverpool now breathing down their necks. A return to winning ways is therefore paramount, but hopes aren’t high given their recent record against Arsenal and the fact they’ve lost eight of their last nine away Premier League matches against sides starting the day top of the table.
