What Man Utd have told interested clubs about conditions of Rasmus Hojlund exit

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund is facing a pivotal summer for his career.

It will soon mark two years since Manchester United agreed a £64 million move for Rasmus Hojlund and then unveiled him at Old Trafford for a pre-season friendly.

In the two seasons since, Rasmus Hojlund has scored a total of 14 Premier League goals, a disappointing return, especially considering his role as the club’s lead striker.

After netting 10 league goals in his debut season, Hojlund was given the number nine shirt in 2024, and responded with just four league strikes in 2024-25.

Manchester United are unsurprisingly looking at signing strikers, which casts a big shadow over Hojlund’s future at the club.

Manchester United set parameters of Rasmus Hojlund exit

There is some disappointment at Manchester United how Rasmus Hojlund’s tenure at United has gone, and reluctance to let him leave.

But with finances dictating United need to sell players, it is most likely the club will cash in on the Dane, who has been struggling recently at international level too.

Earlier this month United In Focus reported there were seven clubs showing interest in Hojlund, but negotiations remain slow.

In terms of an update, Inter Milan and Napoli are the two clubs who have had the most contact over Hojlund.

Manchester United have told interested clubs it will take a fee of £40 million to sign Hojlund.

Inter Milan have told Hojlund he will play a big part, but they would prefer a loan deal with an option to buy.

Manchester United are less keen and have expressed they want a permanent sale, and Hojlund is not so thrilled with a temporary switch either.

There is also a complication over whether Inter would want to match Hojlund’s wages.

Juventus and AC Milan are yet to progress initial interest. There has been interest from German clubs Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt, but nothing substantial.

Hojlund’s brother Oscar Hojlund also plays for Frankfurt, and the possibility of moving to either Germany or Italy appeals to the forward, but the deal has to be right for Manchester United.

During the past international break Hojlund said he wanted to stay at United, but he also wants to play football.

United are not being ruthless, yet

Last summer Chelsea omitted several players from their first team set up ahead of the season to force them into exits, with the unwanted stars referred to as the ‘bomb squad’.

United took a softer approach with the likes of Jadon Sancho, using him in pre-season to try and attract a buyer, and having to settle for a loan deal that did not lead anywhere, now stuck with the exact same problem a year later.

This is a change United could make this season, and could go as far as United deciding to leave players off pre-season tour, and even stripping them of their squad numbers.

If United bring in a new striker, giving him Hojlund’s number nine shirt would be a clear sign of hierarchy, and give him a big nudge towards the exit door.

But with offers not yet forthcoming, United are straddling a difficult line of trying not to sink player values even further.
