Indian players Prkaash Sarran and Tavish Pahwa clinched their respective singles matches via super tie-breaks to seal the win. However, controversy erupted three days later when a video from the match surfaced online. It showed a Pakistani player engaging in an unsportsmanlike handshake with his Indian counterpart. After initially missing the handshake, the Pakistani player made contact the second time, only to pull away abruptly in a seemingly disrespectful manner. The Indian player, however, stayed calm and unflustered, showing remarkable composure. This incident came amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people—mostly tourists—dead. In retaliation, India launched precision airstrikes on May 7, targeting nine terror camps linked to groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen in Pakistan and POK, reportedly killing over 100 militants. While India described the strikes as “measured and focused,” Pakistan responded with drone attacks on Indian military installations near the border, triggering a counter-response from India. After three days of cross-border hostilities, both nations agreed to cease fire on May 10.
