Rangers agree deal to sign "fantastic" player as 49ers go into overdrive

Glasgow Rangers, after officially announcing the Ibrox arrival of Nasser Djiga, who became their seventh signing of the summer, have now reportedly agreed a deal to sign another Gers reinforcement.

Rangers announce sixth Ibrox signing in Djiga

If there were any concerns that Russell Martin wouldn't be backed by the 49ers in his new job, then those concerns have quickly been put to bed by Rangers' summer business. So far, they've signed Lyall Cameron, Max Aarons, Joe Rothwell, Emmanuel Fernandez, Thelo Aasgaard, Oscar Cortes on a permanent deal and, most recently, Djiga on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

After becoming the latest to put pen to paper, the defender told the official Rangers website: "I am very happy to join Rangers, it is one of the biggest clubs in Scotland and in Europe. I will try to give everything, to play every game and I think it is the best team for me. I just want to play and enjoy football with the team."

Meanwhile, equally delighted to welcome another addition, Martin said: “Nasser is someone who, despite still only being 22, has garnered valuable experience in both the UEFA Champions League and Premier League.

"We believe he has all the attributes required to thrive here at Rangers in the upcoming campaign and I am looking forward to working with him.”

Even as signing number seven settles in and pre-season gets underway, however, the Gers still have unfinished business in the transfer window. The 49ers, perhaps aware of just the concerning gap between Rangers and Scottish Premiership champions Celtic was last season, are still aiming to welcome more fresh faces.

Reports are now suggesting that they've once again turned their attention towards English football in pursuit of those signings too, having already signed Aasgaard, Aarons, Fernandez and Djiga from English clubs.

Rangers agree deal to sign Gassama

According to Sky Sports, Rangers have now agreed a deal in principle to sign Djeidi Gassama from Sheffield Wednesday this summer. The 21-year-old winger is reportedly set to sign a long-term deal at Ibrox and leave what has become a sinking ship at Sheffield Wednesday.

Like Aasgaard and Fernandez, Gassama impressed in the Championship at times last season - scoring eight goals and creating one other in all competitions to help the Owls stay afloat. Now set to enter Scottish football for the first time, the Frenchman will be desperate to make a similar impact.

Earning plenty of praise during his time at Hillsborough, Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl previously told reporters when asked about Gassama: “He had a big opportunity in the first half with the transition, and we spoke before about ball positions.

"We spoke to the young players about coming in and showing what they can do, and he’s doing so step by step. He was fantastic in training, and that’s the reason why we took him. It’s not just about defending, we want to attack and play forward. And this is the reason why I put him in.”
