German giants RB Leipzig are to visit South Africa in May and play a friendly against Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria on May 29.

The Germans will travel for four days to South Africa for a post-season tour and a one-off match with the South African champions at Atteridgeville, both clubs announced on Monday.

“South Africa is a particularly exciting football market and a culturally impressive destination for RB Leipzig and the Bundesliga. The passion with which football is lived here fits perfectly with our goal of inspiring people around the world with our intensive and attacking style of play, as well as with our football as a whole,” said RB Leipzig General Manager Johann Plenge.

“After successful tours in the United States and Brazil, we are now very much looking forward to once again taking on responsibility for the league, travelling to South Africa for the first time, and meeting Mamelodi Sundowns – a club that has shaped African football for years and enjoys significant international recognition,” he added.

Leipzig secured four promotions in seven years to reach the Bundesliga by 2016 and have since won two German cups and reached the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League semifinals.

This season they lie fifth in the Bundesliga standings.
