PCB appointed Wahab Riaz as Pakistan women's team mentor

Former Pakistan fast bowler and ex-national selector Wahab Riaz, has been appointed mentor of the Pakistani women's team for the upcoming white-ball series in South Africa. The series, which starts on February 10 and consists of both ODIs and T20Is, is a big step forward for the side as they try to overcome their recent difficulties on the international scene.

Wahab Riaz's nomination was confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday. Imran Farhat and Abdul Rehman, two former players, will accompany him on the visit to offer advice and support to the women's team. After a challenging World Cup campaign, the leadership group wants to make the team competitive again.

Throughout the South Africa tour, Fatima Sana will captain the Pakistani women's team in both ODI and T20I formats. The team's first international series after a dismal performance at the ICC Women's World Cup, which took place in November in India and Sri Lanka and saw Pakistan finish last out of eight countries, makes the assignment noteworthy.

Mohammad Wasim, the former head coach, was fired as a result of the women's team's World Cup performance. Wahab Riaz, who has spent the last two years working for the PCB in a variety of roles, is now in charge of the team's training camp in Karachi as they get ready for the tour to South Africa.

There are a number of significant changes in the South Africa series team. Saira Jabeen and Humna Bilal, two uncapped players, have been added to the T20I team, giving up-and-coming talent a chance to make their international debut. In the meantime, Najiha Alvi, Gull Feroza, Tasmia Rubab, and Ayesha Zafar have been called up to the ODI team.

The visit of South Africa is especially important because it is a key component of Pakistan's preparations for the June ICC Women's T20I World Cup. Prior to the international competition, team management hopes to use this series to establish momentum and finalize combinations.
