MT Travels to Houston to Take on Rice on Monday Afternoon

HOUSTON, Texas – The No. 8 Baylor men's tennis team is set to play the Rice Owls at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Monday, March 2nd at 2 p.m. CT.

Rice is entering the match following a tough 4-1 loss against Middle Tennessee last weekend.

The Owl's roster includes ranked duo No. 83 Santiago Navarro and Petro Kuzmenok.

Rice has faced a multiple Power-4 opponents this season including Arkansas (L, 5-2), Oregon (W, 4-3), No. 3 Stanford (L, 4-0), LSU (L, 5-2), and Utah (W, 4-2).

The Bears have four ranked individuals going into the match with No. 13 Devin Badenhorst, No. 27 Connor Henry Van Schalkwyk, No. 39 Zsombor Velcz, and No. 73 Ioan Alexandru Chirita. The Bears look to bounce back after a three-match losing streak.

Baylor (7-5) trails the series record 25-6 against Rice but has not lost a match to the Owls since 1996, winning the last four meetups. The last matchup between the Bears and Owls was in 2025 where the Bears won the match 6-1.
