Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has brutally shut down a post on social media which compares him with Leny Yoro.

Ferdinand is recognised as one of United's greatest centre-backs, having made over 450 appearances for the Reds where he won 15 major trophies. The ex-defender left Old Trafford in 2014 when he moved to Queens Park Rangers before retiring from the professional game a year later.

Current Reds centre-back Yoro arrived at M16 from Lille last summer and, at 19, is regarded as one of the finest young defenders in European football. United beat competition from Real Madrid and Liverpool to secure the Frenchman's signature.

And an account on X (Twitter) with the username @Utd_Forever7 has made a series of outlandish claims on the social media platform while praising Yoro's potential.

"At 19 years old, Rio Ferdinand was on loan to Bournemouth. At 19 years old, Nemanja Vidic was playing for Red Star Belgrade.

"At 19 years old, Jaap Stam was playing for FC Zwolle. At 19 years old, Leny Yoro is playing for United. He has such a high ceiling."

In response, Ferdinand said: "Brooooo I had played nearly 100 PL games by 19 & had made my England debut," followed by a laughing face emoji.

The 46-year-old has carved out a successful career in the media since his playing career ended in 2015. Ferdinand was a pundit for 10 years on TNT Sports before leaving the station at the end of last season.

Sources said that the two parties parted ways amicably and on good terms, with the door kept ajar for future opportunities. The former England star also has a successful YouTube channel where he speaks to big names within the game while also offering his views on the latest stories from within football.
