President William Ruto has pledged to sponsor two well-known Kenyan football fans to watch their favourite English Premier League clubs live in the United Kingdom.

The President made the surprise announcement during a lighthearted exchange with Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o.

In a video shared online by the president, the two traded playful banter over their beloved clubs, Arsenal FC (Ruto’s team) and Manchester United FC (Jalang’o’s team).

Jalang'o teased the Head of State over recent results, prompting Ruto to defend Arsenal’s standing while dismissing claims of a Manchester United triumph as “guesswork.”

Why is Ruto sponsoring, Useful Idiocy to England?

During the exchange, Jalang’o brought up Kevin Masagara, described as one of Kenya’s most passionate Manchester United supporters, noting that he has never had the chance to watch his team play live at Old Trafford.

“There is a man called Masagara; he is the number one Manchester fan in Kenya, and he has never watched a Manchester game live. He yearns to travel to Old Trafford. Let him go,” Jalang’o said.

Ruto responded by proposing that a famous Arsenal supporter, known as Useful Idioty, also be included in the trip.

“Then I will sponsor Masagara and Useful Idioty to go watch the matches live. I will sponsor their business class tickets and also pay for accommodation so they get the experience,” President Ruto said.

The two fans are widely known online for their humorous and passionate takes on the fortunes of their respective clubs.

Ruto added that the opportunity would expose them to world-class matchday experiences, tying the gesture to the government’s broader sports development plans, including the proposed Talanta Stadium project.
