Paul Merson gives worrying Wolves prediction ahead of Bournemouth, but results elsewhere could offer hope

Wolves are preparing to travel to Bournemouth for an important Premier League matchup — their 26th of the season.

Wolves lost to Liverpool last time out, but will take the positives from their second-half performance.

Next up is a tricky away trip to England’s south coast in a game Vitor Pereira would love to take something from, but Paul Merson thinks the Old Gold might have to wait for their next victory.

Paul Merson expecting Wolves to give Bournemouth tough game

Giving his thoughts on how this weekend’s important game will play out, Merson believes the away team will give the Cherries, who are on course to qualify for European football next season, one of their toughest tests yet, but won’t have enough to come out on top.

“Bournemouth have some good fixtures coming up and I expect them to go on a good run of form from here. They must not take their foot off the gas like they did for a brief spell against Southampton last weekend though. If Bournemouth can maintain their focus over the course of 90 minutes, they can beat anyone in this division on their day!” he wrote in his SportsKeeda column.

“I saw Wolves against Liverpool and I think they are slightly ahead of both Ipswich and Leicester when it comes to the race to avoid relegation. If they can keep that kind of performance up, they will get enough results from now until the end of the season to stay in the Premier League.

“I’m backing Bournemouth to finish fifth or sixth this season because they have some winnable games remaining. Although I must warn them about maintaining focus because we all know how Chelsea were title contenders in December before throwing it all away in the weeks that followed! Wolves will give Bournemouth a fight but I expect the hosts to secure maximum points.”

Merson has tipped a 2-1 victory for Bournemouth.

What will happen elsewhere

Although Wolves’ trip to the Vitality Stadium is an incredibly tough matchup, fellow relegation contenders Leicester City and Ipswich Town also have tricky fixtures in Game Week 26.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Foxes host Brentford on Friday night before the Tractor Boys welcome Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs to Portman Road on Saturday.

Merson has predicted Brentford to win 0-2 against Leicester City but has tipped Ipswich Town to pick up a point with a 2-2 draw against Spurs.

Should the pundit’s premonitions come true, Wolves would remain outside of the relegation zone but see their lead over 17th placed Ipswich Town trimmed to just one point.
