Chelsea wonderkid left screaming in agony after suffering significant injury

Chelsea’s Kendry Paez is currently in the middle of his second loan move away from the Blues this season but the youngster appears to have picked up a serious injury

Chelsea wonderkid Kendry Paez was left screaming after picking up what looked like a serious injury in his latest appearance for River Plate. The 18-year-old was making just his second outing for the Argentine side at the weekend after joining the side on loan in January.

But he now looks set to be sidelined for an extended period. The teenager suffered an awkward fall against Velez Sarsfield just 20 minutes after being introduced.

He immediately shouted for treatment from River Plate medical staff. After some attention from club doctors, Paez attempted to play on but eventually had to be substituted.

Reports in South America claim that the youngster will undergo tests on Monday to determine the severity of the injury. Paez will certainly hope that he has avoided a serious injury after what has been a frustrating season.

After signing for Chelsea from Independiente last summer, he was immediately sent on loan to sister side Strasbourg to play under current Blues boss Liam Rosenior. He made 21 appearances, scoring once, before being recalled.

Big things are expected of Paez regardless of his fitness. Speaking about the youngster earlier this season, Ecuador manager Sebastian Beccacece said: “Kendry was heavily questioned for things outside of football.

“Here we sheltered him, we bet on him. He was 17 years old back then, he had the chance to make mistakes. We sought for him to go to Europe quickly. Today he looks better, he has grown a lot. Every time he comes, he is the player who runs the most, the one who sacrifices the most.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has also sung his praises. He said: "They talk a lot about him, more like all the staff, who are always watching him in the videos, who want to have him here now.

"The time he came they wanted him to stay because everyone knows that he is great and if he does his part and dedicates himself every day, in training and outside, he will be a total great."

The midfielder added: "He’s a crack (a top player)! The truth is there are times where I watch Independiente games, it’s good to see those talents in Ecuador because we know we have very good youth.

"I’m very happy for him, for everything that he’s doing. All I can tell him is keep on the right track, doing things really well, and he’s going to go really far because the talent he has is incredible."
