Liverpool transfer news as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia 'decision' made and $19m Brazilian 'wanted'

Liverpool is preparing for the visit of Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup but the transfer rumor mill doesn't stop for anything. The speculation surrounding Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is highly unlikely to be going anywhere, for starters.

With The Athletic first breaking the news that he could be on the move this month and Liverpool could therefore spot an opportunity, there has been plenty more claims and stories about him since. That could well continue until the end of the month unless something more substantial emerges in the meantime.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today. As well as Kvaratskhelia, a Premier League midfielder who has impressed in the last 12 months is also said to be on the agenda for sporting director Richard Hughes.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (Napoli)

Napoli forward Kvaratskhelia has decided he would keen to move to Liverpool this month if the opportunity presented itself, according to Rousing The Kop. PSG is thought to be leading the race for the Georgian winger with Chelsea and Newcastle United also having been put forward as clubs who might come to the table for the 23-year-old, who wants to play in the Champions League.

Kvaratskhelia would cost around $82m (£67m/€80m) and Liverpool is said to be monitoring the situation despite being well-stocked on the left flank with Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo playing well there. The report claims that while Kvaratskhelia would be open to a PSG move, the same applies to a possible Liverpool switch too.

Liverpool.com says: Kvaratskhelia is a brilliant player and it would be hugely exciting to see him at Anfield. There would be an immediate question mark about the two players who already play in his position, though, ahead of the summer. The Napoli ace can play on the right too but that would lead to questions about Mohamed Salah's contract.

Joao Gomes (Wolves)

Liverpool has made an initial inquiry about Wolves holding midfielder Joao Gomes, according to the Italian journalist Rudy Galetti. Arsenal, Spurs and Manchester United are also said to have asked for "fresh info" on the Brazilian, who has impressed since arriving from Flamengo for around $19m (£15m/€18m) just under a year ago.

"Liverpool is a team I would play for," Gomes told ESPN Brasil in 2022. "I have the greatest desire to play. Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and my family’s — my biggest dream in football."

Liverpool.com says: Gomes looks like a good player but signing him mid-season might be tricky. It feels like a move that would be a lot easier for Wolves to do in the summer rather than in the middle of a relegation battle.
