Djokovic was honored by playing with Messi in the stands

Djokovic played a great Miami Open tournament, advancing to the tournament finals.

“It is special playing in Miami because I had not been here in six years and this is one of the best cities in the world,” said Djokovic at the time. “It was a huge honor to have King Leo in the stands. It was the first time I’ve played in front of him. We are the same age.”

While Djokovic had a lot of momentum and was the tournament's favorite to win, he ended up losing the final match against Jakub Mensik, a 19-year-old player from the Czech Republic who's ranked in the 54th position per ATP standings.

Following the win, Mensik revealed that Djokovic was the reason why he began playing tennis and that it was difficult to beat his idol in a professional tournament.

“When I was young, I started playing tennis because of you,” said Mensik in his on-court interview. “There is no harder task for a tennis player than to beat you in the final of a tournament." This marks Mensik's first ATP title.
