Mason Greenwood has been in sensational form at French side Marseille with Manchester United the potential beneficiaries if he does seal a transferManchester United appear destined to eventually benefit from Mason Greenwood continuing his impressive run of form at Marseille. The 24-year-old permanently departed Old Trafford for France in the summer of 2024, with United including a sell-on clause in his £26.7million switch.Greenwood has made the deal seem like a bargain, having scored 22 goals in the 2024/25 campaign. He has already notched 13 goal contributions this season, with one of those arriving in the Champions League.Marseille sit outside of the qualification places, having lost three of their four European fixtures. Roberto De Zerbi's side are performing well in Ligue 1, though, and currently sit top of the table, though they could be overtaken by Paris Saint-Germain before the day is over.Greenwood has played a big role in that, and his importance to the French outfit has been recognised by CIES, the football observatory website which presents data and analysis on footballers and their value tool. They regularly release new estimated valuations of certain players, with Greenwood one of those that has seen an increase.Back in August, he was estimated to be worth a maximum of €57m (£49.3m), with the lowest being €49m (£42.3m). Just a few months later, his highest price has been declared as €64m (£56.2m), with it now a minimum of €57m (£48.3m).Marseille potentially selling him down the line for around that price would see United pocket roughly £25 million, having inserted what is thought to be a 40 to 50 per cent sell-on clause into his transfer. That was certainly a smart decision by club chiefs at Old Trafford with Greenwood in fine form.Though the English forward had managed just one goal in Marseille's last five matches in all competitions – prior to dispatching a penalty in Saturday's 3-0 win over Brest – he scored four times in a 6-2 win over Le Havre back in mid-October, with De Zerbi making his feelings clear."He has what it takes to become one of the best players in the world," he said after that match. "He's incredibly talented and puts in the work on the training ground."De Zerbi and those at Marseille certainly think highly of Greenwood, but an exit cannot be ruled out, especially if he continues performing at such a high level.Transfer links to Serie A side Lazio emerged this past summer, but no move materialised. A European heavyweight such as Bayern Munich or Real Madrid making a move for his services cannot be ruled out. Here at The Manchester Evening News, we are dedicated to bringing you the best Manchester United coverage and analysis.Make sure you don't miss out on the latest United news by joining our free WhatsApp group.
