Xavi and Iniesta Could Reunite in Morocco

Morocco is going through a restructuring process. After the traumatic AFCON final, Mohamed Ouhabi, the U-20 World Cup champion, took charge of the senior national team. However, the changes don’t stop there.

According to various reports, the Moroccan federation is in talks with Andrés Iniesta to bring him on as sporting director, and alongside him, Xavi Hernández could take over as the team’s head coach. This would be a move with significant media and sporting impact, one that many fans in the African country would welcome enthusiastically.

The federation’s goal is to strengthen the sporting structure of its national team with figures of enormous international prestige. In this sense, Iniesta has been considered for a key role within the project, although no definitive agreement has been reached so far.

The federation believes that the 2010 World Cup champion with Spain could bring his experience and football vision to help consolidate a project aiming to keep Morocco among the most competitive teams on the international stage.

For his part, Xavi was one of the initial names considered to lead the team. However, the Spanish coach reportedly preferred not to take the job with so little preparation time before the 2026 World Cup, as his intention would be to start a project from scratch with long-term planning.

The potential duo of Iniesta in sporting direction and Xavi on the bench would represent a strong move by Moroccan football to begin a new cycle spanning 2026–2030.

The objective is clear: continue driving the growth of football in the country after the significant progress achieved in recent years. Morocco surprised the world with its historic performance in the 2022 World Cup, and now seeks to establish itself as an emerging power in international football.
