Both Rybakina and Svitolina have enjoyed great success in the desert. Svitolina is marking her 12th appearance at the desert this year, with her best outing taking place in 2019 when she reached the semis. The ninth seed enjoyed a comfortable path until her previous contest, where she eliminated Swiatek.

Her start to the 2026 season has been sensational. She broke into the top-10 rankings on the back of a semi-final finish at the Australian Open, and then finished as a finalist in Dubai. She now hopes to advance to a maiden final at IW, but must beat Rybakina, who has already triumphed at this Championship back in 2023.

The Kazakh seemed far from her best in the initial stages of this tournament, but raised the bar against Pegula. The soon-to-be new World No. 2 will enter as a clear favourite, as she is an ominous contender when her serve is working in addition to her thunderous forehand and backhand returns.
