Injury Blow For Kiwis: NZ Batter Out Of Pakistan Series Finale

New Zealand batter Mark Chapman has been sidelined for the third ODI against Pakistan after sustaining a hamstring injury.

With an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, New Zealand will be eyeing a clean sweep as they head into the final ODI on Saturday, April 5, at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, following their commanding 84-run victory in the second game.

Mark Chapman, who had also missed the second ODI due to a minor hamstring strain, has been ruled out of the final match as well after medical evaluation confirmed he has not fully recovered. Tim Seifert, who was brought in as cover for Chapman ahead of the second game, will remain with the squad for the series final ODI.

New Zealand Cricket's statement on Chapman's injury

"An assessment at training today revealed Chapman has not recovered sufficiently to take his place in the XI for the final match of the home summer. Tim Seifert, who was called in to replace Chapman in Hamilton, will stay with the squad for the third ODI tomorrow," New Zealand Cricket said in a statement.

Mark Chapman was in sublime touch during the series, producing a career-best knock of 132 off 111 deliveries in the opening ODI.

His explosive innings, comprising 13 boundaries and six sixes, powered New Zealand to a massive score of 344/9 in 50 overs. The right-hander's brilliance with the bat earned him the Player of the Match award in the 73-run victory.

Ben Sears made the most of his opportunity after replacing the injured Chapman, bagging his maiden five-wicket haul in just his third ODI with figures of 5/59 in 10 overs. Having already clinched the series, New Zealand will look to assert their dominance with a 10th straight home ODI win over Pakistan and seal a comprehensive 3-0 whitewash.
