‘Arsenal could agree sensational double striker deal – huge Mikel Arteta move’

Arsenal are in the race to sign Wolves star Matheus Cunha in the summer transfer window with a sensational double striker deal one tantalising possibility.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 25-year-old is high on the Gunners’ list of targets.

However, Mikel Arteta must first make a decision about what type of striker he wants to lead the line and whether Cunha would be the best fit for that role.

Arteta’s side have been linked with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Sporing CP star Viktor Gyokeres, both of whom are different types of forwards to the Brazilian.

As a result, Arsenal could make an ambitious move to sign Cunha alongside one of their other options to bolster their attacking options.

This comes after the Wolves star confessed: “I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things.” [The Guardian]

Mikel Arteta to make Matheus Cunha decision at Arsenal

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 2 April that Andrea Berta will be key to Arsenal signing Cunha and the groundwork for the deal has already been done.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted that Arteta must make a “huge” decision about the future of his team.

“Arsenal have got a bit of a problem,” he told Football Insider.

“Arteta has to decide what type of centre-forward it is that he wants to lead the line.

“And it’s a huge decision for him because it’s one they have to get right.

“If you’re a team that, for the majority of the time, has the ball and you’re playing in the opponents’ half, you’re playing in a congested area.

“So are they looking for somebody who has a bit of physical presence who can bully defenders, get on the end of crosses and you can bounce things off him?

“Or do they want a clever, ball-playing type who will drop in to link play with the likes of Odegaard?

“The names that are being spoken about seem to be a bit all over the place – they have to make a decision about the type of forward they want.

“Matheus Cunha is definitely on their list and he’s one they’re interested in, but is he the right profile?

“He’s an all-rounder, he can come short to link the play and combine with his teammates, and he can get on the ball, run at people and move in behind.

“But if they want a bigger forward, it may be ideal for Cunha to come in and combine with him as a sort of second striker, and then you go an bring someone else in as the number nine.

“It all comes from the decision Arteta has got to make before the window opens.”

Nico Williams latest emerges amid Real Madrid race

On top of the addition of a new centre-forward, Arteta is also looking to strengthen his squad out wide after an injury crisis exposed their lack of depth in the position.

Brown told Football Insider on 1 April that Arsenal want to sign Bilbao star Nico Williams and are currently leading Real Madrid in the race for his signature.

Work has already begun behind the scenes and their efforts are expected to be boosted by the arrival of Andrea Berta, who has strong connections in Spanish football.

However, Brown confessed players often find it difficult to turn down the prospect of a move to Real Madrid and it would be a difficult choice for Williams to make.
