Ravindra Jadeja made history in the first ODI between India and England at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. The all-rounder became the leading wicket-taker in India vs. England ODIs, surpassing James Anderson’s record of 40 wickets in 31 matches. Jadeja achieved the milestone in his 27th match.

To break Anderson’s record, Jadeja needed two wickets. He leveled with the England legend after dismissing Joe Root for 19. Jadeja then took the wickets of Jacob Bethell, who had scored a brilliant fifty, and Adil Rashid, becoming the first player to take 42 wickets in India vs. England ODIs.

Most Wickets In IND vs ENG ODIs

42-Ravindra Jadeja

40-James Anderson

37-Andrew Flintoff

36-Harbhajan Singh

35-Javagal Srinath,

35- Ravichandran Ashwin

With this remarkable performance, Jadeja reinforced his reputation as one of India’s premier players. There had been questions about whether Jadeja would secure a spot in the playing XI, especially with Axar Patel in the team, but the veteran proved his worth. As India eyes a spot for Varun Chakravarthy in the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, one of Jadeja, Axar, Washington Sundar, or Kuldeep Yadav may be left out to accommodate the mystery spinner. However, Jadeja’s stellar performance has almost assured him of a place in the squad.

Meanwhile, India finds themselves in a strong position in the first ODI. England won the toss and opted to bat, with Phil Salt and Ben Duckett giving them a solid start. However, the English side suffered a dramatic collapse, eventually being bowled out for 248. Harshit Rana was the standout fast bowler for India, taking three wickets. Despite conceding 26 runs in his third over, Rana made a strong comeback and played a key role in putting India in control. The Men in Blue won the match by 4 wickets.
