Chelsea agree personal terms with Liam Delap

Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Liam Delap, and all we have left now are just a couple formalities, a medical, and (most importantly) some signatures on some dotted lines. Things are never official until they are actually official in football, but this deal looks just about signed, sealed, and delivered for our first bit of important business this summer.

As per The Athletic, Delap will undergo his medical at Cobham on Monday, having agreed terms on a six-year deal, through 2031. Chelsea will be paying the 22-year-old striker’s £30m relegation release clause at Ipswich Town and thus don’t have to do any actual negotiations over things (though talks with Ipswich may be ongoing over a loan deal for Marc Guiu going the other way).

Delap was heavily linked with Manchester United as well, but he has chosen Chelsea in the end, while the Red Devils have gone ahead and signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves instead. The order in which those events happened is academic at this point.

With the Delap deal now essentially done, Chelsea are apparently turning to the winger position next.
