Rising stars Mayank Yadav, Dhruv Jurel and Rinku Singh see stocks soar in IPL retention

With the IPL retention list announced on Thursday, rising stars like Mayank Yadav, Dhruv Jurel, and Rinku Singh have emerged as some of the biggest gainers. These youngsters, who impressed with consistent performances last season, have seen their stocks soar as franchises place renewed faith in their potential.

2024 Pay: ₹20 lakh

The biggest gainer, Dhruv Jurel, has been retained by Rajasthan Royals for a staggering ₹14 crore. Jurel was originally picked by Rajasthan Royals in the 2021 mega auction. He made his mark in IPL 2022, scoring 152 runs at a strike rate of 172.73 as an impact player. The young wicketkeeper-batter later earned a spot in the Test series against England, where he scored a match-winning 90 in the first innings of the Ranchi Test. In IPL 2023, Jurel embraced the finishing role, amassing 195 runs at a strike rate of 138.30.

2024 Pay: ₹20 lakh

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retained Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana for ₹13 crore. Pathirana played a pivotal role in CSK’s IPL 2023 triumph, capturing 19 wickets with an impressive economy rate of 7.68.

2025 Pay: ₹11 crore

2024 Pay: ₹20 lakh

Rajat Patidar joined Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as a replacement player in IPL 2023. Initially hesitant, Patidar even postponed his wedding to accept the offer. He finished the season with 333 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 152.50, including a brilliant 54-ball 112 against Lucknow Super Giants in the eliminator. In IPL 2024, after a slow start, he regained form and scored 395 runs at a strike rate of 177.13, with five half-centuries.

2024 Pay: ₹20 lakh

Pace sensation Mayank Yadav has been retained by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for ₹11 crore. Fast-tracked into the senior team, Mayank made his T20I debut against Bangladesh. Despite bowling only 12.1 overs in the IPL, he consistently clocked speeds of 150 kph.

2024 Pay: ₹20 lakh

Sai Sudharsan was initially signed by Gujarat Titans for his base price of ₹20 lakh in 2022. Over three seasons, his stock has skyrocketed. The left-hander reached the 1000-run milestone in his 25th IPL innings, surpassing the joint Indian record held by Tendulkar and Gaikwad, who achieved the feat in 31 innings each.

Shashank Singh, a middle-order batter, got his IPL contract with Punjab Kings in 2024 after a mix-up at the auction. Despite the confusion, he proved his worth, scoring 354 runs with a strike rate of 164.65.

Rinku Singh was retained by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for ₹13 crore ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction. Originally signed for ₹55 lakh, his earnings have now multiplied nearly 24 times, making him KKR’s top retention choice for the season.
